Construction Underway for 2014 Opening of Pharr Produce Park

Pharr City Commissioner Jimmy Garza went on record to say that the 90-acre project is gearing towards completion and is forecasted to open early next year. This past fall, the foundation was created and concrete road production is in progress to establish the Pharr Produce Park, according to an article published on ThePacker.com.

The park will be comprised of 27 2- to 3-acre lots set to integrate and welcome new businesses coming in from Nogales, Arizona. Strategically placed about a half mile from the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge, distributors will conveniently house cross docks, warehouses and cold storage rooms.

Garza said, “The park [will] cost about $11 million, including land acquisition and infrastructure.” It’s a big price to pay but the business perks are worth it. Pharr city officials expect an increase in product-unloading traffic once the Durango-Mazatlan highway is in full force as Pharr is a much closer docking destination to the East Coast compared to Nogales.

Collected tolls on trucks headed towards Mexico combined with increased traffic are projected to bring in substantial revenue, benefiting the Pharr-Reynosa Bridge along with two others which are set to begin operating in 2015. “The regional economy should get a boost from the 300 to 400 jobs the produce park project is expected to generate and from fuel purchases for additional trucks,” proclaimed Garza.

The produce park project commenced after Joaquin Spamer, owner of Ci Logistics in Mexico City and other South Texas locations, selected the site over other prospective locations. He stated, “Pharr city officials understand the produce industry… [Pharr] was really catering to companies like mine.”

The future looks bright for the City of Pharr. Its produce industry attracts new businesses annually from Mexico and other countries. In 2011, Area Development Magazine included Pharr in its list of the Top 100 locations for doing business. The city’s vision for success makes it a prime location within the Rio Grande Valley to generate a healthy profit for your business.
