The Pharr Produce District is the center of all activity regarding produce, distribution and storage operations. The district includes a 300 –acre area and utilizes state-of-the-art machinery, which allows efficient inspection of all produce entering the United States or transported into Mexico.
Our ultramodern cold storage units keep produce fresh, safe and consumable for distributors on both sides of the border. The district contains six-truck inspection cold spaces, each 500 square feet in size, for a combined total of 3,000 square feet of space. This allows fruits and vegetables to be inspected at a controlled 40 degrees, which is below the threshold for ripening. For further convenience, an entomology lab is under development so insects can be examined on-site as opposed to being sent to Los Indios for testing, saving you time and money.
The large size of the produce district allows the Pharr Industrialized Zone to contain a vast amount of produce. Here, it is inspected by the United States Customs and Border Protection Agency (CBP) and then dispatched by shipment to their designated locations within the United States and Mexico.
The CBP may inspect half of each truckload. If so, the produce will fill a single 500 square foot cold storage unit. The CBP may also choose to inspect the full truckload, where it will fill two storage units for a total of 1,000 square feet.
The opportunities for industries that complement the Pharr’s Produce District are numerous. Whether you are a grower, a broker, a distributor or an owner of a refrigerated shipping company, there is plenty of room for expansion and growth in every aspect of this market.
When it comes to providing the most efficient and reliable produce facilities and inspection points in the United States, Pharr can be relied on to help you make the most of every opportunity.
